Accessing email in a Gmail account with Jaws

Checking Email on Gmail with JAWS JAWS reads Gmail best when it is switched to Basic HTML.

After you have signed in for the first time, you need to switch to Basic HTML.

Type Insert F7.

This will bring up a links list.

You can arrow up or down until you hear the link for Basic HTML.

Or simply type the letter B.

Press enter when you hear the Basic HTML option.

If you are doing this for the first time you should set Basic HTML as a default.

Type Insert F7 again for the links list.

Search for the link set Basic HTML as default view.

Press enter. From then on every time you sign in you will be in Basic HTML.

After you sign in you are taken immediately to your inbox.

Gmail stores emails in a table.

There is only one table in your inbox.

To get to it press T

Jaws will say column one row one.

Then will say check box not checked.

Check boxes are a tool for managing mail.

After you down arrow the second time JAWS will say who the email is from.

The third time JAWS will announce that you have landed on a link.

And say the subject of the email. That link is your email.

Press the spacebar to select the link.

Then press the H key for headings.

Keep pressing H till you hear the subject of the email again.

From there press insert and down arrow to read the email.
